Recommended Nail Art Polishes

I’m on the lookout for some cheap nail art polishes, as so much paint is wasted during stamping, I am very reluctant to use my OPI. Ideal nail art polish should be thick and opaque and cheap! The trouble is that the viscosity and opacity of individual colours varies so greatly even within the same brand. I’ve heard that even the official (and expensive) Konad polishes aren’t always opaque.

So I’d like to share some of the cheap drugstore polishes I’ve tried that have worked really well for stamping! (and will continue to do so)

For a great warm shimmery gold I use ’Midas Touch’ from Mode Cosmetics. It stamps over any colour, light or dark. I paid $5 (NZD) for 15ml at the local Unichem Pharmacy. I’ve also seen them at Life Pharmacy.

For a very opaque black creme try ‘5- Black’ from Kleancolor. I paid $4 for 15ml at Postie Plus. I haven’t seen them sold anywhere else.

I also bought a shimmery emerald green ‘121- Mystic Grass’ from Kleancolor. It wasn’t fantastic as it didn’t show up very well over dark colours but it stamps well over light-med tones. I bought it because I love the shade.

Please share your favourite stamping shades! :)

Nail Stamping

I wish I had a camera right now! I have green nails with black tiger print on my fingers at the moment. It’s so much fun. I have recently joined the nail stamping craze and I love it!

As a poor student I couldn’t justify spending $20 on a tiny Konad plate so I looked around and found some fun cheap imitation plates at lightinthebox.com for about $2 each! They have replicas of the Konad designs as well as some more unique designs (including a Winnie the Pooh plate!). I bought 7 plates, the double ended rubber stamp with the metal scraper and 3 bottle of nail art polish (as so much polish is wasted during stamping, I didn’t want to waste my OPI).

I am pleased to say the rubber stamper and the metal plates work fantastically! I am very excited. I don’t use the metal scraper as it seems to scratch the plates. Instead I use an old plastic card (such as a bank/credit card) cut in half. The nail art polish from this site is absolutely useless for stamping, don’t even waste your time! However, the plates are a real treat and worldwide shipping was really cheap. I should also add that some of the plates were much larger, which is useful for those with long nails and curved nail beds like me as the Konad plates are far too small!

I found watching a few youtube videos on how to nail stamp very helpful for perfecting the technique!

Orange really is a great colour. Sadly, I was short on cash when these went on sale :( Hopefully they’ll be back next summer!

I’m very excited for the pink heart shaped glitter! That is my childhood right there! (except I used to have silver heart glitter, but pink is good too).
